Yesterday’s strong and better than expected auto sales data provide another encouraging signal after inventories and production pointed to stabilization in the automotive sector after a disappointing year. Affordability remains a concern for the sector and will likely stand in the way of producers ramping up production to restock at pre-pandemic levels.

Wards Total Vehicle Sales

Wards Total Vehicle Sales soared to 16.5m in November, reaching the highest level since May 2021 and up from 16.25m in October. This marks the second consecutive month above the 16m sales level.

In October, Auto Production eased slightly to 122.5 from 123.9 in the prior month, which was the highest level since March, ending two consecutive months of increases.

Conversely, Auto Inventories rose to 228.16 from September’s 215.59, rebounding from two consecutive months of declines from its recent peak of 267.34 in July.
